The Orange County Housing Authority (OCHA) has established a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Homeownership option. Under this option, qualified HCV participants may be able to use their housing assistance subsidies for mortgage payments rather than monthly rent. The homeownership option allows first-time homeowners who meet certain qualifications to receive assistance with their monthly homeownership expenses.
The high cost of homes in Orange County limits the number of homeownership opportunities. However, if homes and condominiums are priced at affordable levels, it may be possible for a participant in the HCV program to purchase a home.
Under the HCV Homeownership option, potential homebuyers are responsible for finding an eligible property they wish to purchase and securing their own mortgage financing. Each participant will have to be pre-approved by a lender and meet certain initial eligibility requirements.

OCHA has established a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to increase the opportunities for affordable homeownership for HCV participants. To learn more about Habitat for Humanity, please click here.
